About Celiac-Safe Community Resource

Evidence-based resources for people with celiac disease. Not just gluten-free — celiac-safe.

Our Mission

Celiac-Safe Community Resource exists for one reason: to provide trustworthy, verified information for people living with celiac disease. We believe that having celiac disease is hard enough without having to wonder whether the information you're reading is accurate.

Too many "gluten-free" resources treat celiac disease as a lifestyle choice or a dietary preference. It's not. Celiac disease is a serious autoimmune condition where even microscopic amounts of gluten cause real damage to the small intestine — whether or not symptoms are felt. That distinction shapes everything we publish.

We use the term "celiac-safe" rather than just "gluten-free" because it reflects a higher standard. A product can be labeled gluten-free under the FDA's 20 parts per million threshold and still cause problems for sensitive individuals. Celiac-safe means we've looked deeper — at certification status, manufacturing practices, cross-contact risks, and real-world community feedback.

Our Editorial Standards

Every piece of content on this site is held to a set of editorial standards designed to protect our readers:

  • Evidence-based information. Medical and scientific content references peer-reviewed research, medical institutions, and established celiac disease organizations like the Celiac Disease Foundation and Beyond Celiac.
  • Transparent sourcing. We cite our sources and link to them. If a claim can't be sourced, we don't make it.
  • Honest product assessments. Product reviews are based on publicly available information, manufacturer claims, certification data, ingredient analysis, and community feedback. We clearly distinguish between research-based evaluations and hands-on testing.
  • Certification over labels. We prioritize third-party certifications (like GFCO) over self-declared "gluten-free" labels, because certification requires ongoing testing and accountability.
  • No medical advice. We provide educational content to help people understand their condition and make informed decisions. We always recommend consulting healthcare professionals for medical guidance.

Affiliate Links & How We Fund This Site

Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you make a purchase through them — at no extra cost to you. This helps us keep the site running and continue creating free content for the celiac community.

Affiliate relationships never influence our recommendations. We recommend products based on safety, certification, and community trust — not on which brands offer the highest commissions. For full details, see our affiliate disclosure.

Who We Are

I'm Erin Banwell, and I started Celiac-Safe because of my son. When Azi was diagnosed with celiac disease at age 10, I dove headfirst into learning everything I could about keeping him safe. What I found was frustrating: a sea of "gluten-free lifestyle" content that treated celiac like a trendy diet choice, and restaurant guides that said things like "just ask your server" — as if that's ever been enough.

As a parent, I needed real answers. Which products are actually certified, not just labeled? Which restaurants have dedicated kitchens versus shared fryers they call "gluten-free"? What does the science actually say? I couldn't find a single resource that held itself to the standard my son's health requires.

So I built one.

Every article on this site reflects the standard I hold for my own family: if I wouldn't trust it to keep Azi safe, it doesn't get recommended here. When we're wrong, we correct it. When new research emerges, we update our content. When a product changes its formulation, we flag it.
